Professional Judgement: Special or Unusual Circumstances

There are times when certain circumstances — such as a loss of income or family situations — can affect your financial aid eligibility, and the information provided in the FAFSA may not accurately reflect your current financial status. The Higher Education Act (HEA) grants Financial Aid Administrators the authority to use their discretion when a student faces special or unusual circumstances.

Special Circumstances (may include, but are not limited to)

Unusual Circumstances (dependency override; may include, but are not limited to)

Professional Judgments are made on a case-by-case basis. If you believe you have Special or Unusual Circumstances, please contact the Financial Aid Office immediately after submitting your FAFSA. Per federal regulations, InterCoast cannot process an override after a student is no longer enrolled for the period of enrollment.
